Working at Teckels

10 x Volunteer Cat Home Visitor

Volunteer Role: Cat Rehoming Visitor

Responsible to:                   Senior Cattery Assistant

Volunteer Role summary: Cat Rehoming Visitor

As part of a team of ten volunteers, the role of the rehoming visitor is to visit the homes of potential cat adopters to ensure their suitability to adopt a cat from Teckels. 

Rehoming visitors are required to talk to potential adopters to:

  • ensure that they have really thought about the implications of owning a cat
  • help members of the public understand the best ways to settle in a cat
  • help them understand and consider how their home may need minor changes to accommodate a new cat.

Each home visit will take around 20 minutes to complete excluding travelling time.

Rehoming visitors will be required to complete a home visit form and feedback to the centre staff about any concerns, issues or questions raised from the visit. Rehoming visitors may also revisit the homes to ensure that the adoption has been a rehoming success.

Geographical Areas: We are looking for up to ten volunteers to cover the following areas:

Gloucester area - 2 x volunteers

Cheltenham area - 2 x volunteers

Stroud/Stonehouse area - 2 x volunteers

Dursley/Wotton-under-Edge area - 2 x volunteers

Cirencester area - 1 x volunteer

Tewkesbury area - 1 x volunteer


Appointments Days: Visits can be made on any day of the week between 9 am and 4.30pm. An ongoing commitment from each rehoming visitor is preferred.

Experience / skills / knowledge / personal qualities required: An interest in animal welfare but no previous experience necessary as full training will be provided. This voluntary role will suit individuals who are confident communicators with strong customer service skills and can positively connect and communicate with different types of personalities.

Training provided: Full training will be provided.

Vehicle use: Volunteers must have their own vehicle and ensure they have the relevant car insurance. Volunteers may occasionally be required to make visits further afield in which case drivers over 25 years of age would be eligible to use one of the Teckels vehicles.

Opening Hours

Rehoming: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11.00am to 3.00pm. Boarding: Every day from 9.00am to 4.00pm for viewings, drop-off and collections.

Doggy Day Care: By prior arrangement only we are open from 7am - 6.30pm for doggy day care clients only.
